Excavation & Laying of 400 mm+ Water Network Pipelines
Deep trench excavation with shoring, sand bedding, compacted layered backfill, valve chambers and manholes, and asphalt reinstatement on a main urban road, with night traffic management.

This project was carried out on a major arterial road in the city, alongside live traffic and existing buildings. We worked in independent sections: each section was opened, shored, laid, backfilled and compacted in layers, repaved and reopened to traffic before the next one began, which avoided traffic congestion.
Every stage of the project is documented with a field app that digitally stamps the date, time and precise GPS coordinates together with the company logo, so the main contractor and consultant can follow progress in real time and verify completion rates.
Scope of work
- Saw-cutting the asphalt and excavating trenches to design depth on a live, busy road.
- Installing trench shoring boxes and panels as excavation progressed, to protect the traffic lane and neighbouring buildings.
- Placing and fixing sand bedding under and around 400 mm+ pipes in line with water-sector requirements.
- Layered backfill with approved engineered fill and mechanical compaction with suitable compactors and rollers.
- Formwork, reinforcement and concrete for inspection chambers and control valves.
- Rebuilding and levelling the base course, laying the asphalt courses and returning the road to service.
- Night traffic management and diversion with concrete and plastic barriers, warning signs and lighting towers.
